heritage trip to France

In the summer of 2022, I traveled to France for the first time in my life to learn more about the country where my ancestors were from. Both of my parents have French ancestral roots. My paternal side is French, while my maternal side is French-Canadian. My family name "Boisvert" translates exactly to "green wood" in English. While my family remains connected to our French heritage through food, it has always been a dream to travel to France and experience the culture firsthand. We visited the cities of Paris and Nice to experience both urban and coastal living. While I was in France, I was fortunate to employ what I have learned in my French Language and Culture classes. The experience was incredibly rewarding as a culmination to the hard work I have done in learning the language. Most importantly, I was able to connect with my roots by interacting with French locals and learning about their experiences and stories.

Paris

While in Paris, we visited several of the most renowned cultural sites include the Louvre museum, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Notre-Dame cathedral, Sainte-Chapelle, and the Palais Garnier. We also visited Parisian cafes and wandered the Parisian streets to immerse ourselves in the culture.

Nice

In Nice, we spent time on the coast exploring the city, beaches, and local shops. One day, we visited a local beach club and spent most of the day watching the boats and the people. We learned that many of those who work on the beach only do so seasonally and will usually relocate from other parts of France to the Southern coast for the season.

la cuisine

My family loves to bond through food. While we were in France we were able to sample a variety of French dishes we often make at home. Those pictured include a croque-madame, soupe à l'oignon, filet mignon with béarnaise sauce, and Pissaladière (a local N

la culture

While I was in France, I had the chance to practice my French language skills firsthand and learn more about dialectic differences between provinces. It was such a rewarding experience to visit French monuments and apply the cultural norms I have been studying. Above all, I enjoyed the ability to interact with French natives and immerse myself in their culture.
